Vice Admiral Pastoll was the commander of the Free Planets Alliance Fourth Fleet at the battle of Astate. He was killed in action when Imperial Fleet Commander, Reinhard von Lohengramm, launched a blitzkrieg assault before the Alliance forces could prepare.
Vice Admiral Pastoll was an experienced soldier, said to be a veteran of more than one hundred battles. He was a friend of Admiral Paeta, commander of the Alliance's Fourth Fleet.
